Step-through e-bikes for seniors and short riders: Engwe standover, a 4'11" Velotric, and a light Fiido that is not a step-through. Not a test ride.

Best for: You are at least 5 feet tall, you want a low step-through, and $699 is the budget.

Best for: You are near 4 feet 11 inches and you want a step-through that lists a lighter weight than the Engwe folders.

    Fiido D3 Pro

Skip it if: You need a step-through frame, a longer range, or a full-size wheel.

A step-through is a frame you can stand over without swinging a leg high. For a shorter rider, the other number is the lowest height the brand prints. Weight still matters, because a low frame at 87 pounds has to be walked and parked.

This is the best step-through e-bikes shortlist for seniors and short riders, checked on October 16, 2026. The Engwe bikes and the Fiido are approved links. The Velotric Discover 2 is in the table because its height and weight are the honest comparison, and that link is plain text back to Velotric. We have not ridden them.

The short riders hub points here. The seniors hub is this page. A fold that is also a step-through is also in the folding guide. A printed maximum of 6 feet 5 inches or more is the tall-rider guide.

What the frame has to show

The word step-through, on the product page. The L20 2.0, the L20 3.0, the L16, and the Discover 2 say it. The D3 Pro does not. The Tenways Wayfarer spec page does not, so it is not in the table.

Minimum height. Discover 2 Regular is 4 feet 11 inches to 5 feet 9 inches. The D3 Pro is 4 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch. The L20 2.0 size panel is 5 feet 0 inches to 6 feet 0 inches. The L20 3.0 is 5 feet 0 inches to 6 feet 2 inches. The L16 size panel says 4.0 to 6.0 feet.

Standover and weight. The L20 2.0 and the L16 print 14.9 inches of standover. The L20 3.0 prints 38 cm, which is the same 14.9 inches. Weights are 68.3, 87.3, and 76.1 pounds. The Discover 2 lists 63 pounds, excluding fenders, kickstand, and pedals.

Engwe L20 2.0

The Engwe L20 2.0 (opens in a new tab) was $699, from $1,199, and in stock in three colors. It is a folding step-through. Standover is 14.9 inches. Rider height is 5 feet 0 inches to 6 feet 0 inches. Weight is 68.3 pounds. The motor is 750W rated, 1,125W peak, 75 Nm. Tires are 20 by 3.0 inch. Payload is 264 pounds. Brakes are mechanical discs, 180 mm. The battery is 52V 13Ah, and watt-hours are not printed.

Range is blank. The spec panel says 68 miles in PAS 1. The description says 84 miles in pedal assist. Pedal-assist top speed is 28 mph. Throttle top speed is 20 mph. A class number is not printed. The UL FAQ points at the L20 3.0 certificate, so this row does not claim UL 2849.

This is the low step under $1,000 for a rider who meets the 5 foot line. It is the wrong bike under that height.

Velotric Discover 2

The Velotric Discover 2 (opens in a new tab) was still $1,499 on October 16, 2026, from $1,999. Cherry Crimson was in stock in Regular and Large. Other colors on the variant list were unavailable. The link is the manufacturer page. Velotric is not an approved program, so there is no button and no affiliate parameter.

The spec block, copied October 10, 2026, says a step-through, 63 pounds excluding fenders, kickstand, and pedals, and a Regular size for 4 feet 11 inches to 5 feet 9 inches. Large is 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 4 inches. The motor is a 750W rear hub, 75 Nm, with no peak watts we would trust, because the page conflicts with itself on peak. The battery is 705.6 watt-hours. Claimed pedal-assist range is up to 75 miles. Payload is 440 pounds. Tires are 27.5 by 2.4 inch. Brakes are Tektro hydraulic discs, 180 mm.

For a rider under 5 feet, this is the step-through in our library with a 4 feet 11 inch minimum and a listed weight under the Engwe step-throughs. We did not re-copy the whole spec block on October 16. Check the page.

The Ride1Up Vorsa also publishes a step-through from 5 feet 0 inches to 5 feet 11 inches, starting at $1,595 on October 10, 2026. Ride1Up declined the affiliate program. That link stays plain on the under $2,000 comparison. A ready-to-ride weight for the Vorsa is not published, so it is not a weight pick here.

Engwe L20 3.0

The Engwe L20 3.0 (opens in a new tab) was $1,599, from $1,999, and Champagne and Black were in stock. It is a folding step-through. Rider height is 5 feet 0 inches to 6 feet 2 inches. Standover on the size panel is 38 cm. Weight is 76.1 pounds. The motor is 750W, 1,500W peak, 90 Nm. The battery is 720 watt-hours. Claimed range is 60 miles in PAS 1. Max speed is 28 mph. Payload is 330 pounds. Tires are 20 by 3.0 inch. Engwe prints UL 2849, certified by TÜV Rheinland. Folded size is 100 by 51 by 75 cm.

The Engwe EP-2 3.0 is also a folding step-through, and its height starts at 5 feet 5 inches. That minimum drops it from a short-rider list. It is in the folding guide.

Fiido D3 Pro

The Fiido D3 Pro (opens in a new tab) standard build was $549. Weight is 38.1 pounds. Rider height is 4 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch. Range is up to 20.5 miles. The motor is 250W and 35 Nm. Tires are 14 by 2.125 inch. The stem folds. The page does not call the frame a step-through.

Use this row when the rider is near 4 feet 11 inches and the Engwe 68 pound bikes are too heavy. Do not call it a step-through.

Engwe L16

The Engwe L16 (opens in a new tab) single battery was $849. The page calls it a step-through with 180 degrees of clearance. The size panel says 4.0 to 6.0 feet and a 14.9 inch standover. Weight is 87.3 pounds. Top speed is 25 km/h, about 15.5 mph. Tires are 16 by 4.0 inch. The motor is 750W rated, 1,500W peak, 75 Nm. Single-battery range is up to 70 miles in PAS mode. The spec table does not say it folds.

Four feet is a very low minimum, and it is what the size panel prints. Eighty-seven pounds is the reason it is last. A senior who needs the low step and never lifts the bike can use it. A walk-up cannot.

The Tenways that is not in the table

The Tenways Wayfarer (opens in a new tab) was $1,799 and both colors were in stock. Full weight is 66 pounds. The motor is 750W peak and 65 Nm. The battery is 720 watt-hours. Pedal-assist range is up to 85 miles. The product page calls it a cruiser. The spec page does not say step-through and does not print a rider height. Guessing a step-through from the word cruiser would be a guess. It stays out of the table.

The CGO600 Pro is 37 pounds and does not describe a step-through. It is the lightweight commuter pick, not a senior step-through.

How to read the blanks

  • Engwe L20 2.0. Listed at $699 on October 16, 2026, from $1,199. Sea Green, Onyx Black, and Rose Pink were in stock. Orange was unavailable.
  • Engwe L20 2.0. The spec panel says 750W rated and 1,125W peak, 75 Nm, a 52V 13Ah battery, and 68.3 lb. Watt-hours are not printed, so the battery cell is blank.
  • Engwe L20 2.0. Range is blank because the same page disagrees. The spec panel says 68 miles in PAS 1 and 28 miles at 28 mph. The description says about 28 miles on the throttle and 84 miles in pedal assist.
  • Engwe L20 2.0. Throttle max speed is 20 mph. Pedal-assist max speed is 28 mph. A class number is not on the spec list.
  • Engwe L20 2.0. The size panel prints rider height as 5.0–6.0 ft, standover 14.9 inches (38 cm), and a folded size of 102 × 45 × 80 cm. Gross weight of 84.6 lb is the package, not the bike.
  • Engwe L20 2.0. An FAQ says the L20 2.0 passed UL certification and then links the L20 3.0 certificate. That is not a clean certification line for this model, so UL 2849 is not claimed here.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Listed at $1,499 on October 16, 2026, down from $1,999. Cherry Crimson was in stock in Regular and Large. The other colors on the variant list were unavailable. The rest of this spec block was copied October 10, 2026 and was not re-transcribed on October 16.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Spec sheet lists the motor as 48V, 750W, 75Nm, with no peak watts. A comparison table on the same page gives Discover 3 a 1,100W peak and does not give Discover 2 one. A feature line on the page also says '750w/1100w Peak Motor.' Peak watts are left blank because those two statements conflict.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Range footnote: a 187 lb rider, PAS 1, Eco mode, flat roads. Throttle range is listed separately at 60 miles.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Bike weight of 63 lb excludes fenders, kickstand, and pedals.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Rear rack capacity is 66 lb, separate from the 440 lb max bike load.
  • Velotric Discover 2. Default speed is 20 mph. The adjustable range is 12–28 mph.
  • Engwe L20 3.0. Listed at $1,599 on October 16, 2026, from $1,999. Champagne and Black were in stock.
  • Engwe L20 3.0. Tires are 20 × 3.0 inch urban hybrid tires, not 4 inch fat tires. This row is a folder, not a fat-tire pick.
  • Engwe L20 3.0. Folded size is 100 × 51 × 75 cm, with the same up-to-5 cm measurement note. Bike weight is 76.1 lb.
  • Engwe L20 3.0. Engwe prints UL 2849, certified by TÜV Rheinland. Max speed is 28 mph. A class number is not on the spec list.
  • Engwe L20 3.0. Rear suspension travel is 30 mm. The fork is described as hydraulic with adjustable lockout.
  • Fiido D3 Pro. Standard was $549 on October 16, 2026, against a $659 compare-at price. Black and White were in stock. The Urban Edition on the same page was $599.
  • Fiido D3 Pro. The feature list says the stem folds. It does not say the frame folds, and folded dimensions are not published.
  • Fiido D3 Pro. Torque of 35 Nm is on the feature list. The spec block says a 250W integrated-wheel motor and does not repeat the torque figure.
  • Fiido D3 Pro. Payload is 264 lb on the spec list and 264.6 lb on the feature list. The table uses 264.
  • Fiido D3 Pro. The spec list says the throttle's max speed is 6 km/h. That reads as a walk-assist limit. A Class 1, 2, or 3 label is not in the spec block.
  • Engwe L16. The single-battery build was $849 on October 16, 2026, from $1,299, in Champagne and Black. The dual-battery build on the same page was $1,399 and is not this row.
  • Engwe L16. The spec table says 750W rated, 1,500W peak, 75 Nm, 16 × 4.0 inch tires, and a top speed of 25 km/h. That is about 15.5 mph, well under a US Class 2 20 mph limit. A class number is not printed.
  • Engwe L16. Single-battery range is up to 70 miles in PAS mode. Dual-battery range is up to 150 miles in PAS mode. Do not use the 150 mile line for the $849 bike.
  • Engwe L16. The single battery is 48V 18Ah. Watt-hours are not printed. Bike weight is 39.6 kg (87.3 lb) for the single battery. Payload is 120 kg (264 lb).
  • Engwe L16. The page calls it a step-through and prints 180° step-through clearance. The size panel says rider height 4.0–6.0 ft and a standover of 14.9 inches. The spec table does not say the frame folds.
  • Engwe L16. Frame material is steel. Waterproof rating is IPX4. Suspension is a front fork.

A dash means the figure was not published, or two official lines disagreed. The Discover 2 link in that table is not a paid link.

How to choose without a test ride

If the rider is at least 5 feet tall and the budget is under $1,000, the L20 2.0 has the 14.9 inch standover and the step-through, at 68.3 pounds. If the rider is closer to 4 feet 11 inches, the Discover 2 Regular size is the step-through that prints that minimum, at 63 pounds and $1,499, on a plain link. If the bike also has to be near 38 pounds, the D3 Pro fits the height and is not a step-through. If UL 2849 has to be on the same model, that is the L20 3.0, at 76.1 pounds. The L16's 4 foot line is real on the size panel, and so is 87.3 pounds.

We have not watched anyone mount these. The page either prints the height or it does not.

Prices for the Engwe, Fiido, and Tenways bikes, and the Discover 2 price, were checked October 16, 2026. Check current price before you buy.

Accessories

A step-through still needs a helmet, a lock you can use without kneeling in the street, and lights. The longer U-lock is the one that can close around a rack.

What we are not saying

A step-through does not make a heavy bike easy to carry. A 4 feet 11 inch minimum on a mini bike is not a step-through. Commission is not the ranking. The Discover 2 is first for riders under 5 feet because the height and the 63 pound listing say so, and that link does not pay. The Engwe rows are first when the printed standover and the price are the question.

Spec sources

Every number in the table comes from one of these manufacturer pages. Retailer and review sites were not used as spec sources.

Questions

What should a shorter rider measure before a step-through e-bike?

The brand's minimum rider height, the standover if it is printed, and the bike weight. The Engwe L20 2.0 and L16 print a 14.9 inch standover. The L20 2.0 starts at 5 feet. The L16 size panel says 4.0 to 6.0 feet. The Velotric Discover 2 Regular size starts at 4 feet 11 inches and the bike is listed at 63 pounds. A low standover on an 87 pound bike is still an 87 pound bike.

Is the Fiido D3 Pro a step-through?

No. Fiido describes a folding stem and a 14 inch mini bike. Rider height is 4 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch, and the weight is 38.1 pounds. It is in this guide because that height and that weight matter for a short rider. It is the wrong row if the requirement is a step-through frame.

Does the Tenways Wayfarer have a step-through frame?

The US product page calls it a cruiser and the spec page does not say step-through. It also does not print a rider height. Full weight is 66 pounds. It was $1,799 and in stock on October 16, 2026. We left it out of the table rather than guess the frame.

Were these bikes test ridden?

No. The eBike Research team has not ridden them. Engwe, Fiido, and Tenways figures are from their pages on October 16, 2026. The Discover 2 price was still $1,499 that day. The rest of the Discover 2 spec block was copied October 10, 2026 and was not re-transcribed.
